La Fiducie de conservation de Massawippi (FCM) est une entité de conservation établie en 2011 qui protège, préserve et conserve des propriétés à perpétuité dans le bassin versant du Massawippi. La FCM est l’organisation sœur de la Fondation. Il s’agit d’une organisation à but non lucratif qui a un statut d’organisme de bienfaisance et peut délivrer des reçus fiscaux pour les dons. La FCM compte trois administrateurs, dont deux siègent également au conseil d’administration de la Fondation.

La FCM emploie une équipe saisonnière de constructeurs de sentiers qui construisent et entretiennent les sentiers pédestres publics. Parallèlement à la Fondation, le MCT gère un programme d’éducation et autorise des activités de recherche sur ses terres.

La Fondation Massawippi Foundation (FMF ou la Fondation) a été établie en 2011 et est le principal organe de collecte de fonds du Massawippi Conservation Trust (MCT ou le Trust). La FMF est constituée en vertu de la partie III de la Loi sur les compagnies du Québec en tant qu’organisme à but non lucratif. Son conseil d’administration est composé de 11 membres. Les fonds du FMF sont gérés par la Fondation communautaire d’Ottawa.

La Fondation communautaire d’Ottawa (FCO) est un organisme de bienfaisance pour les organismes de bienfaisance. Elle détient plus de 221 millions de dollars et a été choisie par les membres fondateurs du conseil d’administration de la FMF comme gestionnaire d’actifs. La FCO s’occupe des investissements, des fonds, des dons et des reçus fiscaux, réduisant ainsi la paperasserie et les responsabilités en matière d’investissement pour le conseil d’administration bénévole de la FMF.

Margot Graham Heyerhoff

President of the FMF and Trustee of the MCT

Margot has been a Foundation board member since 2011 and a Trustee of the MCT since 2022. 

Margot and her family moved to the Massawippi Valley permanently in 2002. However, she had already established a love for the area long before while attending university and working in the area in the 1970s. She is one of the founders of the Massawippi Foundation. Even before its legal inception, Margot played a key role in its establishment. For much of the last decade, Margot served as Chair and volunteer acting Executive Director at the same time – a term referred to as a “servant leader”. Margot is an accomplished designer and artist.

Jane Meagher

Past Chair of the FMF and Board Secretary

Jane has been a Foundation board member since 2013. 

Jane is a full-time resident of North Hatley since retiring from her law career with the Federal government. Her great grand-father’s family bought their first North Hatley summer home in 1920.  Jane became involved with the Massawippi Foundation early on as the Board was being formed in 2012. She was invited to join in 2013 and has served as its Chair from 2022-2024.

Jonathan (Joff) Elkas

Chair of the FMF

Joff has been a Foundation board member since 2021 and is currently the Chair. He has a secondary residence in North Hatley. 

Joff is a senior Director at the Montreal General Hospital Foundation. He is a business lawyer with over twenty-five years experience with expertise in general commercial, IT, franchise, consumer protection, privacy and telecommunications regulatory law. Joff holds degrees from Université de Sherbrooke (Baccalaureat en droit (L.L.B.)) and McGill (B.A. – History).

Claude Séguin

Treasurer of the FMF

Claude has been a Foundation board member since 2022. 

Claude holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from HEC Montréal and a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Syracuse University in New York State. He began his career in the public sector in the 1980’s and ended as Deputy Minister of Finance for Quebec in 1987. He is currently Chairman of the Board of the Solidarity Fund QFL since 2018. Over the years, he has been involved in several fundraising events including Centraide of Greater Montreal and the 24 Hours of Tremblant Foundation.

Nadia Martel

Vice-Chair of the FMF

Nadia has been a Foundation Board Member since 2023

Nadia holds degrees from Bishop’s University (Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (B.B.A.)  and from Université de Sherbrooke (Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Law and a Master’s degree in Taxation). She is the Co-Founder and Partner of i4 Capital Fund, a Corporate Director and Business Advisor, Strategy & Governance. Currently, she is a member of the Board of Directors of POLR Enterprises and Laserax Inc. She also serves on the board of EVOL. She has served on numerous other boards such as Taiga Motors (Chair of the GHRC Committee), MiQro Innovation Collaborative Centre (C2MI), the Quebec Wildlife Foundation and Bishop’s University.

Eric van Bochove

Chair of the FMF Agricultural Committee

Eric has been a Foundation Board Member since 2021. 

Eric has a Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, a Master’s degree in plant ecology and a PhD in water sciences, as well as years of experience in agri-environmental research before becoming the executive in charge of the scientific direction of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Research and Development Centers of Sherbrooke, Quebec City and Normandin. As a scientist with a passion for the region and an in-depth knowledge of farming, Eric joined the FMF board to help us expand our conservation mission to include agricultural lands.

Alan Capes

Chair of the FMF Planning, Communications and Engagement Committee

Alan has been a board member since 2022. 

Alan is a Civil Engineer (Concordia University) with an MBA (McGill University). Alan retired from a successful 35 year career at CN Rail where he led technology strategy and implemented multi-million dollar business transformation projects. In retirement, Alan co-founded and serves as a director of the Fondation Ruisseau Bouchard in Dorval and is a director of the Ayer’s Cliff Fair.

Hamnett P. Hill

Member of the FMF Agricultural & Advancement Committees

Hamnett has been a board member since 2020 and has a secondary residence in Ayer’s Cliff. 

Hamnett is an entrepreneur, operator, and investor who has built and scaled early-stage technology companies for decades. He founded Radialpoint SafeCare, Inc., edo Capital, Inc. and Smooch Technologies, Inc. Presently, Hamnett is Chairman at Edo Foundation and Partner at Diagram Ventures GP, Inc. He is also on the board of 6 other companies. The edō Foundation and edō Captial, are organizations devoted to increasing awareness and education about sustainable food issues and investing in and supporting entrepreneurs building businesses to address them.

Normand Brière

Martin Primeau

Martin was a Foundation board member from 2022-2024 and he is currently an MCT Trustee since 2022. 

Martin is currently the Chief of Operations of the Fire Protection Service, City of Sherbrooke where he has worked for close to 25 years. He also served with the North Hatley Fire department as Captain from 2002 -2005. Martin was involved in local politics from 2005-2021 and ended his term of office as the Mayor of Canton de Hatley. Martin holds a B.A. from Université de Sherbrooke and has a multitude of educational certificates in the field of fire prevention and safety.

Thomas (Tom) Wilcox

Chair of the FMF Advancement Committee and Trustee of the MCT

Tom has been a Foundation board member since 2011 and a Trustee of the MCT since 2011. As Chair of the Advancement Committee he was responsible for major gifts, among other things. 

Tom Wilcox is a founding board member and trustee. He is a fifth generation American who is part of the long tradition of Americans who have been coming to Canada to escape the heat of the big city and enjoy life at the lake. His grandfather bought land 120 years ago and his father built the family’s camp after the end of World War two. He is a retired C.E.O. and President of the Baltimore Community Foundation.
