The Massawippi Trail just got a lot longer! A new section of protected land, including forests and wetlands, with over 5 kilometers of new hiking trails, was opened to the public in the summer of 2024. The trail, which once ended at Ethan’s Beach, now extends further south.
You can still walk down to the beach, enjoy a picnic, or take a dip in the lake, then return the way you came. However, if you have the time and energy, there’s now more to explore and further to go.
Matthew Cleary, our trail foreman, wrote a great article describing the evolution of the trails. Click here to read his article which appeared in our September bulletin.
We’re also working in partnership with the municipality of Stanstead East to build a new trail at Burroughs Falls, which is expected to open sometime in 2025. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter and stay tuned to this page for updates on the opening date.
